Arsene Wenger is confident that Arsenal can tie down Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez to new contracts this summer.

Mesut Ozil has clashed with the Arsenal boss this week over comments the German international made about the club throwing away their title chances this summer, but Wenger is still confident his top earner will pen a new deal.

The 27-year-old playmaker is thought to be Arsenal’s highest paid player earning £140,000-a-week before his added bonuses, a salary which slightly edges the £130,000-a-week deal his Chilean team-mate Alexis Sanchez takes home – both of which will be extended this summer.

‘That (contract negotiations) will be done in the break, in the summer,’ Wenger said.

‘Yes, I am confident. Yes, they have a two-year contract left and there’s been nothing done yet.

‘They look happy, when I talk to them they are happy and they want to extend their contracts so I don’t think it is a problem.’
