Exclusive: Chelsea’s John Terry to accept England Euro 2016 call if made captain
Chelsea star John Terry is ready to return to the England national
team for Euro 2016 after setting out his demands to Roy Hodgson.
Speculation has been growing that the 35-year-old could befor the Three Lions after quotes from Hodgson this week.
And Metro.co.uk can now reveal that Terry is ready to accept
an offer to take part in Euro 2016 after initial talks with the England
manager and the Football Association.
Despite not playing for England since 2012, and with Wayne Rooney
firmly established as captain since Steven Gerrard’s retirement in 2014,
Terry is demanding to be given the armband if brought back into the
fold.
June 2003 – makes debut vs Serbia and Montenegro

March 2011 – reinstated as captain
February 2012 – stripped of captaincy for a second time after Anton Ferdinand abuse case
May 2012 – controversially named in Euro 2012 squad ahead of Rio Ferdinand
September 2012 – announces retirement from international football

The Blues skipper still feels he has been harshly treated by his
country after a lack of support over cases involving Wayne Bridge and
Anton Ferdinand.
Twice stripped off the England captaincy, Terry feels he deserves a
third stint as leader of the side, and feels confident he can persuade
Hodgson after the 68-year-old made it clear he is concerned about his
current defensive options.
Speaking about his lack of options for the left-sided centre-back
role, Hodgson hinted he’d like to recall Terry when asked if he would be
an ideal option, saying: ‘Yes, who knows? Because he retired so long
ago he doesn’t feature in my thinking too often but I can’t deny that is
a valid point. He is a left-sided centre-half.’
As well as requesting taking the England captaincy from Rooney, Terry
is also pushing to be given his old number 6 shirt back from current
occupier John Stones.
There have even been suggestions that the veteran stopper wants the
number 6 shirt retired if England were to win this summer’s tournament.
In addition, there are further claims that he would like the chance
to drive the team bus in France, though this is not at the top of his
agenda.
