Rio Ferdinand named as shock Louis van Gaal replacement as next manager of Manchester United
The former England international spent 12 seasons as a player at Old
Trafford after making his £30million transfer from Leeds United in 2002,
a deal that saw him become the most expensive British footballer in
history at the time and the world’s most expensive defender for a second
time.
Current United boss LvG has been under severe pressure for the
majority of the season after a run of disappointing results in the
Premier League coupled with a sorry exit from the Champions League group
stage.
Although former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has been widely tipped to
replace the Dutchman in the summer, it seems Rio’s managerial experience
picked up in the BT Sport TV studio has proved to united directors that
he is the man for the job.
‘New Chapter.. Contract signed.. Looking forward to going into management in June. Big summer ahead!’ Ferdinand said on Twitter.
